Crown of the Wolf Baron

Wondrous Item, Rare (Requires Attunement)

The Crown of the Wolf Baron is an open circlet of hammered bronze incised with runes of the Ancient Dethek, surmounted by sixteen bronze iron spikes in the shape of longswords, and a bronze wolf-head has been affixed to the crown’s front. The entire item is chilly to the touch.

Once attuned, the wielder gains Resistance to Cold damage.

Bite of the Winter Winds : When an enemy within 15’-range damages the wielder, as a reaction that enemy can take d6 cold and psychic damage. The enemy is also immobilized until the end of its next turn. This power refreshes after either a short rest or a long rest.

Weight of the Winter Winds : The Crown of the Wolf Baron has seven (7) charges. The attuned wielder may spend a charge to reroll any attack roll which does cold damage. The new result must be accepted. The crown regains d6+1 charges daily at dawn.

Few are aware that the Crown of the Wolf Baron has an older name; “Crown of the Winter King”. Lord Hrothnar, ruler of the realms today known as the Land of a Thousand Kings, came south to the lands of the Greenwood, seeking plunder and slaves. He was slain during the excursions, and laid into a cairn with his battle companions near where he fell.

At present, the Crown is held by Baroness Neria Blackshield, who uses the artifact to display her control and power over the realm of Thornkeep.
