Giant ants are among the hardiest and most adaptable vermin. They operate on instinct, driven by simple needs such as food and reproduction, but as a group can operate efficiently to defend their own nest. Different colonies find food through various means, some herd smaller insects for honeydew, while others actively hunt smaller insects. Almost all keep fungus farms for the raising of their young and to feed the queen.
Worker ants are the younger, smaller members of a colony, about 3’-long, while older “soldier” ants are larger and hardier. It is these soldiers that are often encountered away from the colony, as the older ants risk themselves doing forage and defensive tasks, while younger workers spend their time caring for the next generations and the queen, and tending nest fungus farms. Queen ants, usually only a single one found in each nest, are a large creature, 9’-long.
